Thank you, as always, for checking in on this week’s fishing report.
Flows out of Palisades Reservoir have dropped to 1,500 cfs, and based on historical trends, they’ll likely hold there through the end of the month before tapering to winter flows around 1,000–900 cfs. These lower flows open up excellent wading opportunities across the river, though if you’re floating, expect a long, slow drift — plan accordingly.
Streamers and Blue-Winged Olives (BWOs) remain the main focus right now, with a few Mahogany Duns and October Caddis still hanging around. Another fall storm is forecast to roll in Saturday afternoon, which should bring ideal conditions for both BWO hatches and aggressive streamer eats.
That said, wind is the big variable this week. Nothing shuts down a BWO hatch faster, so if gusts pick up, shift tactics — swing or strip streamers, or fish small nymphs and BWO emergers subsurface.
If you need flies, tackle, or up-to-date fishing advice, our Swan Valley Fly Shop is open 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily. Give us a call at 208-483-2727 or stop in before you hit the river.
See you on the water,
