Flows on the South Fork have bumped up slightly this week to 11,800 cfs and have held steady for the past few days. Palisades Reservoir is sitting at 96% full, setting us up for a solid summer season.
We’re seeing Green Drakes hatching on the lower river, especially below Twin Bridges and around Lorenzo. Salmon Flies are on the verge—we expect to see them in the air any day now.
Fishing has been productive, with nymphing taking the spotlight in the mornings, and some dry fly action picking up in the afternoons. Upstream of Twin Bridges, it’s still mostly a nymph game for now, but that’s likely to change soon with warmer weather in the forecast.
Speaking of weather, the next few days look warm and windy, followed by a notable cool-down on Sunday and Monday. If we had to guess, the first Salmon Fly sightings will come from anglers floating the lower river in the next few days.
Stay tuned—next week’s report could be a whole different story.
