River Conditions
Flows out of Palisades dropped a bit this week, coming down from 12,000 cfs to 10,250 cfs. The step-down came Tuesday morning and has held steady since.
The Word From Our Guides
The fishing has been good this past week on the South Fork. The early morning Mutant Stone game is still an option, and our guides and guests have been having good success on hopper-dropper rigs — a hopper or Chernobyl on top with a small rubberlegs trailed behind to imitate a Mutant Golden Stone nymph.
The streamer fishing has also been surprisingly good, particularly with smaller patterns that imitate small minnows.
Weekend Outlook
Today and Friday are shaping up hot and sunny, with highs near 90 and 92. Saturday brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 85, and Sunday carries a 50% chance of afternoon showers and storms with a high around 81.
Those showers would certainly increase the streamer action, and if clouds and rain settle in, that can help kick off a Mahogany Dun and BWO hatch.
Tactics
There are still plenty of opportunities to fool fish on ants, beetles, and hoppers, and caddis will be worth having tied on in the evening hours.
