Thank you for checking in on this week’s fishing report for the South Fork of the Snake River. We post this report every Thursday afternoon all summer long.
River Flow: Flows are scheduled to be dropped today from 8,250 to 6,750 cfs. This is typical this time of year as the growing season has come to an end for local farmers. I would anticipate more drops this week and certainly as we move through the month.
The “severe clear” is here for the foreseeable future. While fishing this time of year is better when it’s cold, wet, and cloudy don’t let the sunny skies deter you too much. Nymphing with small bead heads like Tungsten Thread Midges, Crack Back BWO’s, Rainbow Warriors, etc. had been very good. Streamer fishing is good early morning and late evening, and don’t give up on the dry flies as fish are still grabbing terrestrials and mutant golden stones.
A 2 or 3 rod set up will keep you successful no matter what water you’re in. Streamer rod or dry-dropper rig for the banks, double nymph rod for deep riffles, foam lines etc. and a rod rigged with terrestrial dry flies for side channels etc. You’ll get em!
We have some great fly patterns in the shop to keep you into the fish in addition to everything else you might need. Stop by or give us a call if you need anything.
Tight lines!
