South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 4/14/22

Fishing Guide Coal Sutthiemer

A fishing report on a powder day!  Welcome back to February and where was this weather in February?  No matter though because we need all the moisture we can get. If you don’t ski and you’re as tough as these guys I just spotted on our webcam then by all means get out there and fish!  This week we’ll cover current conditions as well as the Idaho Fish & Game’s schedule for spring electrofishing.

Palisades Reservoir is 39% full and we’ll need more of this type of weather if we want to see it fill up this year. Whether it fills or not there should be enough water to keep the flows steady and cool through the summer.  The outflow from the reservoir remains the same as last week at just a tad below 1,500 cfs.

With the cold/wet weather forecasted to continue through the weekend at least your best bet will be to stick with double nymph rigs under an indicator.  Focus on winter holding areas, deep & slow.  Midges, Stoneflies, and San Juan Worm type flies are producing the most fish.

The Idaho Fish & Game will begin their Rainbow Trout suppression efforts on Monday, April 18th. They will be electrofishing Mon-Thurs and the section they’ll be working varies by day. (see the chart below).  Suppression efforts are scheduled to end on Thursday, May 19th.  You can see the full schedule and details here.
