South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 8/15/24

Fly Fishing Guide holds a Rainbow Trout on the South Fork of the Snake River

Cooler weather, showers, and clouds made for a nice change this week.  Sunny skies and gradually warming temperatures are in the forecast for the weekend.  With flows pretty steady at around 9,100 cfs it’s classic summer fishing on the South Fork.  Early morning Mutant Golden Stone missions or late evening Caddis and Spinner Fall fishing will be the most consistent dry fly fishing and you’ll avoid most of the guided fly fisherman.  If you do find yourself on the river in the middle of a warm and sunny day small rubberleg nymphs (simulates the mutant goldens that are hatching) trailed with a tungsten jig dropper will work well.  For those “dry or die” anglers there are still PMD’s hatching during the day and terrestrials are on the menu as well.  This will be the name of the game from now until our first cool weather of Fall arrives and kicks off the Blue Winged Olives.  Enjoy these summer days!
