Flows are steady at 8,000 cfs just a bit below average for the date. Water temperature and clarity are excellent which is contributing to some very good fishing. Mutant Golden Stones are keeping early morning anglers happy. If you want to get in on this action it’s best to be on the water at first light and expect the fish to be interested in chasing these bugs until about 11:00 or so but the best action is before the sun is all the way up. Twitching and Skating big foam bugs around gravel bars and structure is the way to go. The middle of the day may be the toughest time, at least if the sun is out, there are still enough PMD’s out that the fish will be in the riffles but they are educated and spooky. Terrestrial patterns are working well as are small stonefly nymphs. As the sun leaves the water in the evenings streamers come into play and when the fish will begin to rise for caddis and the evening spinner fall. Cooler temperatures are on the way so we should see Blue Winged Olives and Mahogany Duns hatching if we see more Fall like weather arrive this weekend.
