We’re all going through post eclipse depression here at TLAPC. Was that amazing or what? Hard to explain totality if you didn’t experience it yourself. All our guests came back to the lodge that day with their minds blown. Guides reported that the river got very quiet as the birds stopped chirping, a cool breeze picked up as the moon blocked the sun, but fishing didn’t change much before or after.
Outside of the eclipse fishing has been very good this week and instead of the dog days of summer that might be typical this time of year the South Fork is fishing very well with consistent cool/clear water flowing from Palisades Reservoir. PMD fishing in the afternoons has been very good in many riffles and foam lines with fish moving into shallow water to get first dibs on bugs. We are seeing a good number of hoppers and mutant stones showing up and the guides and guests alike have been enjoying throwing “big foam”. Don’t forget small mayfly droppers as this technique has been particularly deadly lately. And several guides pointed out that fishing both hoppers and mutant stones with a twitch is the name of the game.
A few fun events to make note of; tonight we are hosting a casting clinic in partnership with the Teton Regional Land Trust. $35 gets you a casting lesson, dinner, and drinks. ee flyer below for details.
