Anglers who have braved this unsettled weather have been rewarded with rising trout, streamer-chasing brown trout, and cold fingers. This is just the kind of weather our guides, bugs, and trout love. The flow out of Palisaded reservoir dropped yesterday to 2,500 cfs. This opens up all kinds of wade fishing opportunities. If you’re floating this time of year remember it’s going to take A LOT longer to get to your take ou than it does in the summer, especially if you take the time to stop and fish to pods of rising trout.
As with last week’s report be ready to fish streamers before and after the afternoon hatch of B.W.O’s and Mahogany Duns. I would have full life cycle patterns for BWO’s (nymphs, mergers, and dry flies) The forecast for the weekend is for sunshine and gradually warming temperatures. The sun may stifle the fishing some, but the fish know that winter is coming and should continue to feed aggressively. If nothing else your fingers will be grateful for the sun. Focus on shady areas of the river for your streamer efforts. We’ve got all the flies you might need at our shop in Swan Valley next to the new gas station. Have a great weekend!
