South Fork Fishing Report – Pre-Halloween Edition
It’s scary, we know… this is our last weekly fishing report of the season!
A big thanks to everyone who subscribed to the newsletter and checked in on the report each week — we appreciate you following along.
Flows dropped yesterday to 1,200 cfs from 1,550, opening up excellent walk-and-wade opportunities for those with the legs (and waders) for it. Floats that took just a few hours in July will now take all day, so plan accordingly.
We’re still seeing some Blue-Winged Olives, with midges taking on a bigger role as we move toward winter. Brown trout are beginning their spawn, so keep an eye out for aggressive streamer chasers during low-light periods.
Please remember to avoid walking on redds (spawning beds) when wade fishing — protecting these fish ensures great fishing for years to come.
Rainbows, cutthroats, and non-spawning browns are transitioning into their winter holding water — the deeper, slower pools with good cover. Look for fish feeding on BWO’s and midges in foam lines, and don’t be afraid to throw a streamer through those deeper pools for some last-of-the-season action.
Thanks for another great year on the South Fork. We’ll see you next spring — same river, new stories.
Tight lines,
The Lodge at Palisades Creek Team
