South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 10/7/2021

south fork of the snake

Indian Summer is nice and all but if you’re a connoisseur of the South Fork then today’s weather is getting you excited.  Maybe, like me, you’ve been waiting for some weather to come in, drive the crowds away, and fire up the bugs and fishing!  Flows are down to 4,000 cfs this week, opening up a lot of walk/wade fishing and making drift boat fishing safe and easy.  Grab your rain gear, waders, streamers, and full life cycle patterns of Blue Winged Olives and Mahogany Duns, and be ready for Fall fishing at its finest.  I would plan on throwing streamers in the morning and evening hours.  Mayflies typically hatch in the afternoon so nymphing before the hatch and after is effective with BWO nymphs.  The fish will be plodding up in foam lines and riffles when the dry flies are out.  If you get into a pod it’s always wise to stay with them if you can and “don’t leave fish to find fish”.

If you need any flies, gear, or advice visit us at our Swan Valley fly shop located in the plaza next to the new gas station or give us a call.  The lodge’s phone number is 208.483.2222 or the fly shop at 208.483.2727.  Dress warm and have a great weekend on the river.
