South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 10/8/2020

Happy Thursday to everyone! Thank you for reading this week’s fishing report.  We’ll continue updating our report every Thursday through the end of October.  Winter fishing reports will be posted as conditions change.

River Flows:  Flows remain unchanged again this week at 6,000 cfs.  We are anticipating a drop in river flows any day now.  Palisaded reservoir is at 47% capacity which has us really happy when we look towards next season.

Weather: If you’ve been enjoying the warm, sunny weather lately it would be wise to head out for what could be the last of the flip flop weather through Saturday.  Sunday brings a major weather change that our guides are pretty excited about.

Fishing: I think the only thing that has changed since last week’s report fishing wise is the month. The weather, river flows, and fishing remain pretty much unchanged since last Thursday’s report.  You can jump back to that report here.  Through Saturday your focus should be on nymphing faster, deeper, water with small nymphs that imitate stoneflies, BWO’s, and midges. Fishing and tactics will change on Sunday as cold/wet weather will really stimulate the fish and the bugs.  Look for the streamer bite to be near frenzy levels on Sunday as the weather moves in.  Blue Winged Olives and Mahogany Duns should hatch in abundance.  Dress warm, be safe, and have fun!

Hunting: Our Cast n’ Blast and field hunting trips for ducks and geese started this week.  Yesterday we had some happy hunters and anglers out on the South Fork and tomorrow we’ll be hunting some fields.  Our guides are scouting daily for the best locations and we are excited to offer some truly next-level field hunts this year.  Give us a call for details.

As always should you need any flies, tips, or gear swing by our fly shop open daily or give us a call 208.483.2222.
