South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 4/13/2023

fishing guide cole sutheimer

It’s Spring…It’s Winter…It’s Spring…today it’s Winter for sure but this weekend is looking more Spring like.  Quite a few anglers were on the river this past weekend enjoying the nice weather.  It’s safe to say that last weekend was the kick-off for many anglers.  The water is still cold so the white fish were more active than the trout but several anglers I talked to found pods of trout.  The key here is if you find a depth and flow that holds trout, stay in that area and/or seek out similar waters.

Midges are about the only hatch happening right now as well as the occasional Skawala Stone.  Access to the river is opening up for floating as well as wade fishing now that the snow is melting.  All boat ramps and access points are now open except for Cottonwood, Wolverine, Heise Bridge, and Twin Bridges.

Flows are up slightly from this week from 900 all winter to just below 1,200 cfs.  We expect flows to come up slowly but not dramatically as the USBOR will be “catching” much of the run off to fill Palisades Reservoir.

If you want to get rid of some cabin fever and come fish with us we have guides available for day trips until the lodge opens next month.  Our Swan Valley fly shop is open daily.  To book a trip call 208.483.2222.  If you have questions for the fly shop you can call 208.483.2727.
