Thank you for reading (or subscribing) to our weekly fishing report. The flows were bumped up from 13,000 cfs to 14,000 cfs about the time I posted the fishing report for last week, the flows have been stable since. Cool and wet weather has been the norm this week and that trend will continue into the weekend. An increase in flows has the big fish on the hunt for worms and the clouds have fish chasing streamers. Remember to focus your efforts on slow moving water, even water that is not moving at all aka “frog water” will hold fish when the water is cold and high. It could be well worth your time to walk or row back up some side channels, backwaters etc. During the peak of the dry fly fishing in the summer I might try to fish nearly all the water my boat would float by, this time of year I might only fish 20%, skipping banks that are too fast, riffles that are too deep, but really taking my time to fish slow/deep water when I find it.
This week’s fly suggestions remain the same. A variety of San Juan type worms are working well, as are big rubberlegs, egg patterns like the Blob, Mops, and small midge and B.W.O. nymphs. Effective streamer patterns include Krystal Flash Minnows, Sex Dungeons, Clousers, etc. Fish those streamers deep and slow and remember to switch colors often if you’re not getting any chases.
