South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 5/9/24

Fly Shop Manager Brody Barrus with a big Rainbow trout.

The snow that blanketed Swan Valley yesterday morning has melted, the sun is out and the weekend weather is looking fantastic. It will be a great weekend to be fishing. Flows dropped this week down to 13,000 cfs.  Fishing remains pretty good if you concentrate on fishing slower and deeper water.  From now until the water temperatures increase around mid-June, it’s all subsurface fishing.  We’re catching fish on big stonefly nymphs imitations, worms, midge patterns, and starting to see a few fish grabbing eggs.  Streamers are also working well and are worth throwing when it’s time to cover some water.  It’s a great time to be on the South Fork as many anglers flock to the Henry’s Fork for dry fly fishing, you’ll still have great fishing on the South Fork without the crowds.

Our fly shop is open daily 9-4, come by to grab your 2024 license, hot fly patterns, and any tackle for the day you might need.  The fly shop is also having a big sale on their website with some great patterns on sale for just $1 each. Check it out.
