South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 6/6/2019

We just keep pinching ourselves! Awesome weather this week along with a steady flow of 9,000 cfs made for some of the finest fishing we’ve ever had this early in the season. The South Fork is in rare form! Looking at the average flow for the first week of June we’d usually be pushing 14,000 or 15,000 cfs and this same week last year we were pushing 22,000 cfs!

Similar strategies in the past weeks remained effective this week with most of our guides and guests fishing a two fly nymph rig. Some good reports from streamer fisherman came in and few of our sneakier guides are getting fish here and there on dry flies.

Looking ahead to the weekend it looks like Friday and Saturday are going to feel more like winter with improving weather on Sunday. I’ve been enjoying this nice weather so if it were up to me I’d fish Sunday afternoon but I’m sure the fishing will be better if you tough out the weather.

Our guides are chomping at the bit to get some Salmon Flies flying and we’ve seen “the big bugs” out as early as mid-June before. With lower flows this year there’s some speculation they could hatch earlier. Could we see Salmon Flies next week on the lower river? It wouldn’t surprise me.

Other notable fishing opportunities include Palisades Reservoir where our resident lake aficionado, Larry, has been having some great success with his 22′ pontoon boat (party barge haha). I mentioned this a few weeks ago but if you’re looking to improve your streamer game the bass fishing on the Main Snake River has been excellent. Our friends at Snake River Fly are reporting fifty fish days. If you’re interested in booking a trip on the reservoir, Main Snake, or The South Fork give us a call 208-483-2222

Have a great weekend!
