Hatches are abundant up and down the South Fork with a surprising number of Salmon Flies still fluttering around on the upper river and in the canyon. In addition we’ve got Golden Stones, Sallies, PMD’s and Caddis. The fish have seen a lot of flies over them this season so they’re getting picky, fish your big dries with a twitch, and if you can cast them where nobody else has you’ll be rewarded, this means close to the bank, around structure, under bushes etc. For PMD’s have a variety of patterns, adults, cripples, and emergers. Fishing is holding up but with summer sun and heat soon we’ll see better fishing early in the morning and later in the evening. The bugs are hatching, the water is clear, cold and abundant and the fish are feeding. It doesn’t get much better than that. Have a great time on the river.
