The weather the last few days, while wet and cooler, is exactly what the bugs, fish, and anglers want this time of year. This cooler pattern looks to be in place for a week which bodes well for this week’s fishing. The flow was dropped to 9,000 cfs on August 1st, this is average for the date and opens up more riffles and side channels for fishing opportunities.
The cloudy weather makes fishing with any fly better be it streamers, dry flies, or nymphs, as the fish are more willing to leave cover to feed when compared to a sunny day. Streamer anglers rejoice! You’ll also see thicker hatches of PMD’s, Caddis, and maybe even some Blue Winged Olives with this cool weather. To top it all off we’re having some good terrestrial fishing so there’s a lot to think about.
Speaking of thinking about, if you’ve been thinking it’s time to come fish, stay, and or dine with us give us a call we have some spots available for guided fishing, lodging, and dining by reservation. 208.483.2222.
Have a great weekend on the river.
