South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 8/5/2021

As you can see from the photo above the fishing remains very good on the South Fork of the Snake. That is guide Josh Heilson with a client caught 30″ Brown! Recent rain and cloudy weather have kept the bugs hatching and the fish active.  Several of our guides reported excellent streamer fishing on cloudy days.  Palisades reservoir is down to 45% full.  Praying for the rain must be working with another cold front slated to swing through tomorrow and bring more showers.

Up and down the river there are Golden Stones, PMD’s, Hoppers, Ants, Beatles, and Caddis.  It’s getting harder to get consistent eats on big bugs but if you can keep them where they belong some fish are still looking up.  If you’re not turning heads switch to nymphs or streamers.  Pay close attention to the riffles, the fish are there but they are being more subtle with their feeding, primarily focusing on nymphs and emergers.

The river is down almost 2,000 cfs from last week’s report, a welcome reprieve from all the hardcore rowing that has gone on the past month.

Please give us a call or swing by either of our Swan Valley fly shops if you need any tips, shuttles, licenses, flies, or gear.  208.483.2222
