South Fork Fishing Report – August 7, 2025
Thanks for checking out this week’s fishing report! The flow out of Palisades Reservoir has been holding steady at 12,100 cfs for over a month now, but based on historical trends, we’re likely due for a drop in the coming week. That drop should trigger the season’s first good emergence of “Mutant” Golden Stones. These nocturnal bugs hatch at night or early morning, making dawn patrol floats especially exciting—worth setting the alarm.
In the meantime, there are still plenty of “regular” Golden Stones and hoppers around to keep the big foam bite going strong. PMD hatches are happening daily, but the fish are getting wise—bring your A-game and a good selection of patterns. Stop by the fly shop for our latest top picks.
Early and late in the day, you’ll find good action with caddis and streamers. And if you hit a sunny stretch with no visible risers, switch to a double nymph rig. Try a small rubberlegs to mimic a Golden Stone and pair it with your favorite PMD or caddis dropper.
Riffle fish are picky right now, but don’t overlook terrestrials. Ants and beetles can still turn heads when nothing else seems to work.
Have fun out there, and if you need anything—gear, flies, or just some advice—give us a call or shoot us an email. Tight lines!
