South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 9/15/22

Cooler weather, showers, and a drop in flow are just what we needed to shake things up and improve the fishing on the South Fork.  The cloudy weather inspired confidence in the fish and had them looking up for terrestrials and some “big foam” bugs as well as chasing streamers.  The weather change also got our fall mayflies hatching, you can find both Blue Winged Olives and Mahogany Duns as well as a few Pale Morning Duns. Don’t be surprised if you see a few straggler Mutant Golden Stones around with the recent drop in flows. (11,200 on Monday and 9,000 cfs today).

The weekend forecast calls for temperatures in the 60’s to low 70’s and a chance of showers each day. Compared to the 90’s last week it really feels like Fall. Be ready with streamers, and BWO/Mahogany lifecycle patterns. I wouldn’t be afraid to throw a hopper dropper or mutant dropper rig with your favorite BWO nymph.  JuJu Baetis or Olive Tungsten Thread Midges would be good choices.
