South Fork of the Snake River Fishing Report 6/7/2018

The river is high, it’s off-color, and the fishing is…..AWESOME!

Yep, with very few anglers on the river, only our guides would know, but we’re not kidding it’s been a special week.  The fishing is so good that even our manager is ducking out of the office this afternoon to get in on the action.

So what’s the deal?  In the afternoon the river is simply “going off”.  It seems the water temp hits some magic number that gets the nymphs moving and the fish feeding.  The fish are stacking up in the riffles and drop-offs each afternoon and our guides have been doing very well on a two fly nymph rig.

“It’s been amazing to see the progression this week of warming temps, clearing water, and the fish start moving into the riffles and ledges to feed” – Head Guide Jaason Pruett

Top Flies this Week

  • Size 8 Cheater Belly Stonefly Nymph
  • Size 10 Foxy Golden Stone
  • Bead Head Creamy Caddis
  • Duracell Jig

Do be careful if you are the South Fork this weekend.  While we’ve had great afternoon fishing and it’s worth it, the river is high and you need to pay attention. The water is moving much faster than you might be used to. If you’re not an experienced rower consider hiring a guide or waiting for flows to drop.

Stop by the shop if you need any of the above flies, a guide, shuttle, gear or a fishing license.  We love to talk on the phone as well 208.483.2222.
